ABSTRACT

Acetylsalicylic acid is the most commonly used analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory drug worldwide. Acute intoxication is therefore frequent, nonetheless, patients are often not properly recognized or managed. This review consist of two parts, the first paper discusses the pharmacology and pathophysiology of acute salicylism, this second part deals with workup and treatment. The objective of this article is to help the physician to establish a management algorithm in acute salicylism and to understand the therapeutic rationale.
