ABSTRACT
This is a prospective clinical trial upon 100 consecutive cases of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in whom instead of using clips; intracorporeal knots were done in all cases. This study was done from January 1998 through September 2002, with the following data: 80% females, 14% males, 92% electives, 8% emergencies cases. Age range (16-77 years old)-average 42.2
Operative time: (25’-180’ range)-average 64’. Time used for endosurgical knots: (8’-55’)-average 19’. Not a single case of common bile duct injury was recorder neither a single mortality as well. Morbidity was observed as follows: port infection, abdominal wall hematomas, abdominal wall retained stone and an incisional hernia. Part of this group, were 4 pregnancy cases associated with gallstones. Pathology report: calculous chronic cholecystitis upon 80% and 14% due to cholesterolosis, microlithiasis, polyp, bi-lobed gallbladder. Conclusion: Using knots instead of clips means: potential therapeutic, technical and cost-effective advantages. Besides increases skills and capabilities for surgeons.
