ABSTRACT
Renal transplant is the treatment of choice for terminal chronic renal disease. Compared to patients who are maintained on dialysis, the successful renal transplantation improves the quality of life and reduces mortality in most patients. The number of patients with end stage renal failure has increased in recent years. In 2007 there were 4,584 patients waiting for a kidney transplant, the figure increased to 11,302 patients at the end of 2014. There are many factors that influence patient and graft survival in the long term, as the presence of significant comorbidities, which include heart and lung conditions. Also, an important factor for the prognosis is the proper management during and after kidney transplantation. Perioperative management varies greatly between different transplant centers. The following review describes the most important issues of the perioperative setting of renal transplantation.
