ABSTRACT

Pseudoaneurysm of the splenic artery is a rare vascular lesion; it has an incidence of between 0.098 and 0.78% in the general population but up to 10.4% in persons over 60 years of age. It is more common in women, but with a higher incidence of rupture in men. We present the case of a male patient age 44 years, with history of recent fundoplication, who was admitted to the emergency service with symptoms of two days’ evolution characterized by abdominal pain, vomiting 10 times, fever, and symptoms suggestive of bleeding of the upper digestive tract. Abdominal ultrasound and computed tomography were performed, with findings compatible with pseudoaneurysm of the splenic artery. Selective arteriography and embolization were performed, both successfully. The patient had favorable evolution and control studies showed pseudoaneurysm in resolution. Discharge due to improvement.
