ABSTRACT

Hypoplasia of the internal carotid arteries is a variant of uncommon appearance and therefore rarely reported in the specialized literature. It is often detected incidentally, as it is usually asymptomatic. It may manifest, in adults, as frequent ischemic events or subarachnoid hemorrhage due to its association with aneurysmal formations. It is due to an anomaly of early development whereby circulation forms collaterally to the cerebral vascular blood supply. It has some radiological signs which help to identify it and differentiate it from other disorders or anatomical variants.
