ABSTRACT

In 2013 the World Society of the Abdominal Compartment Syndrome published an update on definitions and recommendations on treatment of this pathology and intraabdominal hypertension. When intraabdominal pressure exceeds 12 mmHg a diagnosis of intraabdominal hypertension (IAH) is made. IAH is classified in 4 grades depending on its severity. If IAH is not identified and treated in a timely manner it will progress to abdominal compartment syndrome with high intraabdominal pressures and organ dysfunction.
