ABSTRACT

Abdominal pain is a disease with great frequency in the emergency department and it presents a diagnostic challenge due to the wide range of etiologies. It has been shown that the use of opioids does not increases the risk of incorrect diagnosis as in errors in the choice of treatment, and therefore it facilitates the psisician the fisical exploration of the acute abdomen. Every patient should be individualized and every physician should have extensive knowledge about anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and differential diagnosis in order to obtain the most accurate diagnosis. In conclusion, the administration of analgesia prior to diagnosis is favorable for the patient during the evaluation as for the treatment choice and one should not delay its indication.
