ABSTRACT

Primary open angle glaucoma is a progressive optic nerve neuropathy, triggered by both environmental and genetic risk factors. Several ocular tissues, including the ciliary body, trabecular meshwork and optic nerve head, are involved in the complex pathology of the disease. Genetic studies have revealed multiple risk factors and genes that are involved in primary open angle glaucoma.
