ABSTRACT

Eosinophilic enteritis and especially eosinophilic esophagitis is a recently recognized disease and its prevalence is increasing significantly. Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a disease characterized by aberrant infiltration of eosinophils within the esophageal mucosa. The symptoms of EoE vary with the age of the patient are typically refractory to acid suppressive therapy and manifest as reflux, vomiting, failure and/or refusal to the passage of food, or abdominal pain. The severity is associated with the number of eosinophils found in the esophageal mucosa and the degree of hyperplasia of the esophageal epithelial cells. The cause of EoE is unknown and believed to be a type I hypersensitivity immune response where the food or airborne allergens may be responsible for the physiopathology. This is a clinical and pathological report of 16 cases that were evaluated in the city of Chihuahua in Dermatology and Allergy Clinic in different periods and with various diagnoses in the chapter of eosinophilic enteritis.
