ABSTRACT

Lymphadenopathy is the abnormal enlargement of one or more lymph nodes. Lymphadenopathies in children are a frequent reason for consultation in pediatrics and are usually benign. Generally, through a proper clinic history and appropriate physical examination it is possible to establish a diagnosis, however, in some cases complementary studies can be required, such as laboratory tests, imaging studies and/or biopsy. It is important to consider the patient’s age and size, nature, location, time of onset and evolution of the lymph nodes. Classifying lymphadenopathies as infectious, immunological, endocrinological, miscellaneous and malignant tumors helps in determining a differential diagnosis, and treatment must be specific for each pathology.
