ABSTRACT

Introduction: Child maltreatment is an important entity of public health. The objective is to report the experience of eight surgical cases of child maltreatment. We try to create awareness in medical community in order to make an appropriate diagnosis. Material and methods: We studied eight surgical cases in three different medical centers, from Puebla and Tlaxcala states. It was an observational, descriptive and retrospective study. Results: From the eight patients with child maltreatment. 62% were female and 38% male. We find different kind of injuries: fractures, intraabdominal trauma and cigarette burns. Two of eight patients died. Conclusions: Child maltreatment is an issue that must be diagnosed in a timly manner and needs a multidisciplinary treatment in order to decrease morbidity and mortality.
