ABSTRACT

Gestational trophoblastic disease comprises a group of benign lesions (complete and partial hydatidiform mole) and malignant lesions (placental site trophoblastic tumor, invasive mole and choriocarcinoma). Its early diagnosis is achieved with the use of ultrasonography, in addition to monitoring values of the human chorionic gonadotropin. In terms of treatment, in the case of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia different risk factors are taken to account to determine the extent of the disease. Neoplasia categorized as low risk a single agent therapy is recommended, and in case of high risk a multi-agent therapy is used and it may need surgery.
