ABSTRACT

A case and control study in a population of 1466 hypertensive patients from "José Martí" Popular Council, Santa Clara municipality was carried out with the objective of identifying the relation between risk stratification and occurrence of ischemic complications. A number of 42 patients who suffered from ischemic complications were included, as well as, a random sample of 44 hypertensive patients without complications. Average age had significant differences between both groups: patients without complications were aged 59,1 ± 12,8 years and those who had complications were aged 71,2 ± 13,1 years. Glycemia and creatinine clearance were the lab studies that showed significant differences between both groups. Patients were not stratified according to risk factors associated with hypertension, and their treatment and control were deficient. Risk stratification was not a priority; therefore, it did not correspond to therapeutic conduct in none of the groups.
