ABSTRACT

Introduction. Laparoscopic surgery through single incision (LSSI) is a surgical technique that seeks to make intra-abdominal surgery through a single input port, allowing a reduction in the number and size of incisions, getting better cosmetic results with at least the same functional results than conventional multiport laparoscopic surgery. Aim. To evaluate the results, as well as gather and share the experience after five years of practicing surgery without trace in Medica Sur. Material and methods. An observational, retrospective and descriptive study with patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery through single incision in the period from March 25, 2010 and March 25, 2015 was performed. Results. During the study period 24 patients were included. The procedures were performed for only 6 surgeons, surgical residents assisted the hospital. 20.8% are appendectomies, cholecystectomies and 66.6% to 12.5% colectomies. The overall incidence of complications was 25%. Series mortality was 0%. Conclusions. This study demonstrates the feasibility of LSSI Medica Sur. In addition to facilitate future comparisons between institutions, this study may be useful for counseling patients about current risks of LSSI. Multicenter randomized prospective studies are needed to accurately compare the results between LSSI and Conventional Multiport Laparoscopic Surgery.
