ABSTRACT

Smoking has become a major public health worldwide, and Costa Rica is no exception. It is an addiction that should be seen as a disease and therefore should be treated by health professionals, from the first moment a smoker patient is detected. The smoking has been linked to increased incidence of morbidity and mortality in chronic diseases, increased costs of health care and longest running health services, so it is a problem that must be attacked from all sides, and help the patient overcome his addiction, this is achieved through a comprehensive approach that encompasses not only the medicating drugs.
