ABSTRACT
An open fracture is one in which
all its fracture focus is exposed to
the outside, are complex lesions
and affecting both the bone and
the surrounding soft tissue. The
classification of open fractures
is based on the type of fracture,
associated soft tissue injury and
in this bacterial contamination.
The goals of treatment are to
prevent infection, until fracture
consolidation occurs and the
function returns. Because of
the danger they represent, open
fractures should be treated with
the urgency needed to achieve
in this way the most favorable
outcome possible.
