ABSTRACT

Introduction: the evolution of the health areas acquires a special significance revealing the trends and regularities of health care facilities where medical services are provided, analyzing their origins and results.
Objective: to describe the evolution of "Pedro Raul Sanchez Rodriguez" Teaching Polyclinic.
Methods: a pedagogical research was carried out at of "Pedro Raul Sanchez Rodriguez" Teaching Polyclinic from Pinar del Rio municipality during the period from January to February 2016. Dialectical materialist method was used, which allowed the use of theoretical, empirical and statistical (descriptive) methods. Among the first group the historical-logical and systemic-structural methods, and in the second group testimonies and interviews were included; preserving the medical ethics and having the required informed consent of the witnesses.
Results: the review of the martyr "Pedro Raul Sanchez Rodriguez" was described. The results of health indicators in 2015 were qualitatively higher. The chronology of directors amounts to 19, and the predominant period of time in the direction was from one year to 10 leaders (57.8%). The results achieved by the scientific and teaching indicators achieved by the polyclinic in 2015 showed high rates.
Conclusions: defining the evolution of the health area constitutes a source of historical knowledge for workers, students and the community.
