ABSTRACT

Amiodarone-caused pulmonary toxicity (APT) is a well-known adverse event of this medication, correlates more closely with the total cumulative dose than with serum drug levels. APT can resemble pulmonary infection, heartfailure, pulmonary thromboembolism or restrictive pulmonary disease, the refore the diagnosis is difficult and delayed in cases without strong clinical suspicion. It can present as chronic interstitial pneumonitis, organizing pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and solitary pulmonary mass. It is diagnosed by exclusion, being the chest computerized tomography a useful diagnostic tool. Discontinuation of amiodaroneisthe primary the rapy, additionally for patients with symptomatic pulmonary toxicity, systemics teroids may be useful.
