ABSTRACT

Constipation is a frequent complaint among patients attending daily medical consultation. And it has a wide variety of treatments available, which must be individualized according to the clinical suspicion resulting from a good history and physical examination of the patient. Only a minority of people with this problem seek medical help, which causes there is a great ignorance on the matter, not only about his solution, but also to its consequences. Therefore, as doctors must inform and educate our patients, and especially prevent self-medication, and its consequences.
