Laser therapy like a complement in a new treatment of allergic rhinitis

ABSTRACT

Objective: to evaluate the usefulness of Laser Therapy as a complement treatment in allergic rhinitis. To relate the clinical improvement between gender and the age groups in the study.
Methods: a experimental, prospective and longitudinal type study was conducted from June to September 2013 to patients who came to the Rehabilitation Services at "Tomas Romay" polyclinic reprieved from ear, nose and throat service of Artemisa municipality. A sample of 62 patients was taken: only 31 were treated with a conventional method (Control Group), remaining 31 received conventional treatment and laser therapy (study group). The test of difference of proportion was applied to determine the truthfulness of study with a α 0, 05 level of significance.
Results: in the study 27 (87,08%) patients of the group presented improvement of their symptoms, no sooner the control group with single 19 patients (61,29%). The patients of the feminine gender prevailed with 22 patients (91,66%) of clinical improvement and the same way the groups of ages smaller than 19 years with 18 patients (90.00%).
Conclusions: the treatment with laser therapy was useful in the treatment of the allergic rhinitis as for the regression of the symptoms of this bothersome illness, which was presented with more frequency and with better results in female gender, in group of early ages and in the adolescence.
