Behavior of the amendable risk factors of the brain-vascular illness after the first event

ABSTRACT

Background: it is estimated that by 2030 the patients w ith cerebrovascular disease and the occurrence of a new attack increase, if risk factors are poorly controlled.
Objective: To identify the behavior of risk factors modifiable cerebrovascular after a first acute event.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 76 patients discharged from hospital with cerebrovascular disease after the first acute event in the Teaching-Surgical-Clinical Military Hospital "Dr. Octavio de la Concepcion y de la Pedraja", from 2012 to 2014, who met the established inclusion criteria.
Results: ages exceeding 60 years in more than 84% of patients and male sex prevailed. The type of vascular brain disease with higher percentage was ischemic. The main risk factors identified were hypertension, physical inactivity and diabetes mellitus with 82.52 %, 73.68 % and 50 % respectively. At six months, heart disease, physical inactivity and hypertension were the most controlled factors.
Conclusions: only a quarter of patients control their modifiable risk factors after the first event was found. This suggests to presage that the remaining patients are more likely to have a new cerebrovascular event. Therefore, a strategy for more effective medical individual action must be designed.
