ABSTRACT

A descriptive and retrospective study was carried out to characterize clinical and epidemiologically the occupational bronchopulmonary diseases diagnosed in the National Institute for Workers' Health (INSAT) from 1988 to 2014. The sample was constituted by the total of cases diagnosed by the Diagnostic Commission in that period. The clinical records were revised; the data emptied in a database and the statistical analysis was made using the statistical package SPSS version 11.5. The main variables included were the diagnosed pathologies, age, sex, exposure time, average latency time, spirometric and radiological findings, use of personal protection means and realization of periodic medical checkups. Among the main results it was observed that occupational asthma and pneumoconiosis were the most diagnosed illness. The illnesses prevalence was similar in both sexes and in the group of 40-49 years for both. The average exposure time, as well as the time of latency, corresponded to the pneumoconiosis. Most of the cases didn't present spirometric alterations. The radiological nodular pattern was presented only in the pneumoconiosis cases and normal one in patients with asthma. Most of the patients didn't use personal protection means neither they were periodically examined.
