Insomnia and perceived stress in medical students

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Insomnia has been linked to deterioration of the ability to work accurately and intensively. Stress is a common topic in psychological, physiological and labor investigations due to environmental, social and economic conditions.
Objective: To determine the relationship of insomnia and perceived stress in medical students of the Universidad del Valle de Mexico, Campus Villahermosa (Tabasco State).
Methods: An observational, cross-sectional and prospective study was conducted among medical students in May 2016. Students in second, fourth and sixth semester of Medicine responded to a questionnaire of 28 items, the scale of Athens and of perceived stress.
Results: Ninety-four students of a medical were found that 21.28% had insomnia, 34.04% were positive and 10 cases were stress related insomnia stress was evaluated.
Conclusion: There is a relationship between perceived stress and insomnia in medical students.
