ABSTRACT

Introduction: in the current era, characterized by phenomena such as globalization and the growth of information and communication technologies, their impact on the different social spheres is undeniable, a phenomenon that has also impacted on the health sector considering different aspects, ranging from the development of new techniques and procedures to the health care of the different specialties, along with to the virtualization of hospital processes.
Objective: to characterize the management process of the administrative controls in the Department of Nursing Care at "León Cuervo Rubio" Provincial Clinical-Surgical Teaching Hospital in Pinar del Río province, to provide an efficient solution using the information technology.
Method: an observational and descriptive research was conducted in a population of 315 nurses (male and female), taking as sample 25% (n = 79). A survey and a documentary review of the system of models were applied; which were used as a product of this process.
Result: indicators were obtained regarding the development of computer skills, motivation, and decision-making, among others, drawing a strategy for the computerization of the process; coinciding also with a line of investigation in this field and carried out at national and international level.
Conclusions: the work carried out, established guidelines to be followed into the process of computerization to manage the administrative controls within the Nursing Care Department at "Leon Cuervo Rubio" Clinical-Surgical Teaching Hospital and to train the Nursing Staff to develop computer skills.
