ABSTRACT

The fetal abuse is defined as the intentional injury to the product of conception. We report a case of fatal injury by firearm. This is 17-year adolescent with pregnancy of 23 weeks, first gestation, married. She was injured by her husband with a firearm projectile at abdominal level. Exploratory laparotomy revealed hemoperitoneum of about 300 mls, major injury to the body of the uterus with umbilical cord protrusion. Cesarean product was obtained dead, a female who presents complete fracture of the left femur with total bursting and bleeding into soft tissues most of the limb, these injuries were naturally fatal. The increase of violence against pregnant women is becoming more common, like in this report that the life of the mother was endangered and unfortunately the loss of life of the product in pregnancy.
