Malignant infantile osteopetrosis: clinical case

ABSTRACT

Preterm female 35-36 weeks gestational age, born by vaginal delivery, with severe perinatal asphyxia that required admission to the neonatal intensive care for two months, presented respiratory distress syndrome, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, seizures, hepatosplenomegaly, necrotizing enterocolitis, nosocomial pneumonia, septicemia due to Candida albicans and Staphylococcus epidermidis. At six months of age, was diagnosed with malignant infantile osteopetrosis (OIM) by having oral respiration, loss of vision, hepatosplenomegaly, and in the radiological bone studies with bone generalized hyperdensity.
