ABSTRACTIntroduction: The management of quality in the higher education states the necessity of a new educational process which is based on the principles of excellence, quality and pertinence. For this reason, the higher education should be improved according to the current context in accordance to the correspondent society, having as the main elements the evaluation and the accreditation system of institutions and their university teaching process.
Objective: The objective of this study was to characterize, systematize and prioritize the management of quality at the Medical Faculty "General Calixto Garcia".
Methods: A historical and logical study was used to assess the background of the management of quality in the university process at international levels. Also, a documentary analysis and self-evaluations in the university system were carried out in order to evaluate the university syllabuses.
Results: They showed that in the type of the management of quality at higher education, the trinomial: quality-evaluation-accreditation is highlighted.
Conclusions: To achieve higher levels of quality in the university process, the institutional commission in charged to assess this work allowed the detection of strengths and weaknesses. As well as, to design plans to improve the quality of the university processes was of a paramount importance for better results.
