ABSTRACTIntroduction: The transformations of the current economic world have influenced the way business are managed and thus the management of human talent. Today's companies require not only committed but also competent staff who help the company achieve its objectives.
Objectives: To identify the state of the scientific production on labor competitions in occupational health and the perspective of new approach.
Methods: Documentary investigation of descriptive level, by means of categorial analysis and bibliographical synthesis of the thematic ones: Labor competition and competitions in occupational health. An exhaustive search was realised in average forms and digital data bases like: Scopus, Sciencedirect, and Scielo, Dialnet plus, EBSCO Host and Google academic.
Results: An historical line of the main theoretical contributions of the concept of labor competitions was constructed, its approaches and types. It to recognized the experiences, models or proposals of competition in Occupational Health Latin American and Colombian, the directives of international organisms of normalization and certification and from the academy.
Conclusions: The historical reconstruction of the concept of labor competitions allows to establish that in the field of the occupational health a new approach is required, that makes possible the effective management of the risks and leadership of the management system for showing results superiors to which nowadays it presents.
