ABSTRACT

This study was carried out with the objective of determining if body position influences the pressor response to isometric test of sustained weight. Sample was formed by 97 young adults of both genders, whom underwent an isometric test in sitting and supine decubitus position. Values of systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressures were obtained in rest position and during the second minute of isometric exercise, as well as, variations of systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressures in sitting and decubitus position. Mean blood pressures in rest position and during isometric test were higher in sitting position than in decubitus position. Delta values of systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressures did not have significant differences. As a conclusion, body position has an influence on the pressor response to isometric exercise, but not in the degree of cardiovascular reactivity.
