The associated factors with exclusive breastfeeding

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Breastfeeding is the best choice to feed the child during the first year of life and is considered the best and most complete source of nutrients; there are several factors that relate to the success of it.
Objective: To determine some variables that influence the behavior of breastfeeding in the first year of life, during 2013.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study, in a universe of 210 births in 2013, was carried out, at the Polyclinic "Aleida Fernandez" of the municipality of La Lisa. The literature review, documentary and contrasting of criteria by different authors as a theoretical procedure was used in addition to empirical procedures.
Results: Exclusive breastfeeding was maintained for 4-6 months in a favorable 48.6 % associated biosocial factors such as the high cultural level and be working. Knowledge about breastfeeding influenced the prevalence of the exclusive breastfeeding, showing that there is little knowledge about it.
Conclusions: The duration of exclusive breastfeeding is below the recommendations of our national health system, identifying protective factors of exclusive breastfeeding. Highlighting the need to increase health activities more effective, as there is need for information on the subject.
