ABSTRACT

Creative thinking process is associated with attention, memory and cognitive flexibility has therefore been considered fundamental component of cognitive functions, allowing us to get adapted by diversifying strategies. Sex and educational level variables are involved in creative thinking, however relationship between creative thinking and sexual orientation hasn´t been studied. This study aims to asses creative thinking in women with different sexual orientation, to analyze if there are differences between the scores of creative thinking. Three groups were evaluated; homosexual, bisexual and heterosexual with a total of 31 participants women between 18 and 30 years old, undergraduate or graduate, by applying Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT), the scores were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis test. Significant differences were found for the flexibility subscale in verbal creativity, having the bisexual women the best performance. For the originality in figural creativity, significant differences were found between heterosexual and homosexual women, being the last ones who obtained major score. Meanwhile in subscale resistance to closure in figural creativity, the heterosexual women plucked significantly below other groups. The findings suggest for this population creative characteristics expressed in a differentiated way among women with different sexual orientation, by means of creative properties involved in the divergent thought, and that seemed to possess particular characteristics between the above mentioned sexual orientations. There is recommended for future investigations analysis of the creative product united to the cognitive implications of the creative process as well as the inclusion of male participants.
