ABSTRACT
Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of factors associated with functional constipation and treatment response in patients treated in pediatric gastroenterology office of the Hospital Regional Lambayeque and a private clinic.
Material and methods: An observational, descriptive and prospective study was performed using data from patients diagnosed with functional constipation, defined by the Rome III criteria, in the Lambayeque Regional Hospital and a private clinic from January to March 2016. We use a data collection. The statistical analysis was descriptive.
Results: 86% of patients had inadequate intake of water and had no definite schedule defecation. 100% of patients had treatment response, 76% within two weeks.
Conclusions: Inadequate intake of water and the absence of a definite schedule for defecation were the most frequent risk factors in our environment. All patients had treatment response, most within two weeks.
