ABSTRACT

In line with the theories of socialization, Mestre highlights the role played by parental styles and some dynamics associated to the family and the educational context in explaining the development of prosocial behaviors during adolescence. The author intends to specifically investigate how certain relational family dynamics and peer relations associated with other personal characteristics (empathy and emotional instability), may at least partially explain the prosocial response in a large representative sample of Spanish adolescents. The strength of the study developed by Mestre involves the simultaneous analysis of the role of contextual and individual variables in explaining the tendency to enact prosocial behaviors and hence can deliver relevant information to operators and policy makers about specific targets to be considered in promoting prosocial behaviors among adolescents and youths.
