ABSTRACT

Introduction: Regional anesthesia of the upper limb is a common procedure with considerable advantages in treating patients with arm and hand pathologies. Most of them present as trauma, congenital abnormalities and benign and malignant tumors. Some of its advantages are less postoperative pain; faster recovery and less hospital stay days. Some of the minimum requirements of this technique includes an experienced anesthesiologist, a cooperative patient and in some cases, ultrasound to guide the block. Conclusions: Regional anesthesia of the upper limb is an excellent therapeutic option when treating arm and hand pathologies. Both anesthesiologists and plastic and reconstructive surgeons benefit from its use achieving a better recovery and satisfaction of the patients.
