ABSTRACT

The purpose of this essay is to present some results of a research through Oral History, around militancy and violence with militants from the September 23rd Communist League in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. There is a recurrent problem during the narration of violent events in which the interviewed militants were involved, and the way they reconstructed the memory from the present. The analysis of the testimonials about armed militancy, allow us to identify some of the edges that make difficult to approach violence as a method used against state agents, and in some cases against other leftist militants and even against the own comrades of the organization. Identifying the reasons of the silences or forgetfulness in the stories of radical militancy, may help us transcend the explanations centered upon morality or fear, which started after the World War II and were expanded around the world and contribute to the historical understanding of processes where political violence is approached from the perspective of Oral History.
