ABSTRACTThis paper presents a review of the path taken in the generation of knowledge, from basic research to its application in natural settings and the existing gaps in achieving its dissemination. It also shows how translational research and knowledge transfer can narrow this gap so basic principles may exert influence on the development of empirically validated programs; this in such way that basic principles may influence the development of empirically-validated programs and may be applied by health professionals to potential users.
