Oral and Maxillofacial pathologies prevalence in Regional General Hospital Num. 1 Querétaro

ABSTRACT

Background: The most frequent maxillofacial injuries and the ones that are biopsied for further histopathological study are: Cysts, reactive proliferations, benign tumors, premalignant lesions, malignant tumors, infections and immune mediated disorders. Reactive proliferations are the most common injuries and malignancies are the least common. Objective: Determine the prevalence of oral and maxillofacial pathologies in Regional General Hospital 1 Querétaro, from January 2007 to December 2015. Material and methods: Retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive study. Every histopathological study referred to the pathology department by the Maxillofacial Surgery Service of the Regional General Hospital No. 1 Querétaro Delegation, between January 2007 and December 2015, was included. Eliminating only the histopathological studies with incomplete file or where there wasn’t a diagnosis. It was developed from May to July 2016. Resources and infrastructure: Computer (Word and Excel programs), printer and paper work that was covered by the researchers. Results: 341 histopathological diagnostics were registered, were the most common were inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia (38),irritation fibroma (25) and epidermoid carcinoma (24). The most common pathological group was the reactive proliferations (35.19%) and the least common was the premalignant lesions (1.76%).
