ABSTRACT

An experimental study aimed at identifying the histopathological changes in liver as a consequence of diabetes was conducted in the Biomedical Research Unit at the University of Medical Sciences, in Villa Clara. Newborn female Wistar rats were studied and divided into two experimental groups: a non-diabetic control and another one, to which moderate diabetes was induced by subcutaneous injection of 100 mg/kg body weight of streptozotocin. Despite no statistical differences were found among the evaluated variables in both study groups, the frequency of occurrence liver damage was higher in the group inoculated with streptozotocin.
