ABSTRACT

For several years, the possible health effects related to the exposure to the electromagnetic fields associated to the consumption of electric energy, the basis of our industry and social welfare, have been a source of controversy and discussion both in scientific and technical forums, level of the general public. As a result of this controversy, increased in recent years due to different causes, such as the electric lines of high voltage lines, the installation of fixed antennas of mobile telephony, among others; the public is receiving confusing information, not adequate to the veracity of their risk or safety.
Based on an objective evaluation of different scientific evidence on the potential effects of nonionizing electromagnetic emissions on health, this paper aims to elaborate the necessary recommendations, which will contribute to the adoption of the most effective health protection measures to reduce the effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic emissions on health.
The text has been written in an accessible and instructive language within the requirements imposed by the scientific rigor needed to this type of documents. We hope that this work will serve as a base for the adoption of strategies and decision-making regarding the protection of citizens against exposure to the electromagnetic field.
