ABSTRACT

The new Latin American social movements are defined in the most recent contemporary time from social scientists of international reputation to the extent they have been presented as the engines of social dynamics. The work identifies its general features in the face of the challenges of the twenty-first century in the strength of neoliberalism and in open opposition to the balance left by capitalist modernity. The methodology used is based on the materialistic dialectic for social analysis, the history of the present and the analysis of the discourse. The research provides a theoretical study to understand the social dynamics in the region from the role of social movements, a useful tool in the hands of ELAM teachers and students, as well as others interested in the subject. The results confirm that social movements are important collective actors in Latin America, even as agents of change.
