ABSTRACT

Objectives: To describe and analyze the self-service methods applied to control chronic pain present in acromegaly, as well as to analyze family support during this process. Material and Methods: A cross-qualitative, descriptive study, which consisted of the following: Deep interview was conducted in 12 women and 3 men in the Association of Acromegaly A.C. located in the Distrito Federal to know the care models used. A qualitative analysis was carried out. Results: Chronic pain occurs during the disease process of the patient, so the patient resorts to self-care in the process. Family support is important for the patient; chronic pain disrupts their relationships and work. Conclusions: In the disease process of the patient, the Model of Self-care is present, combining the different strategies of the Models of Care (hegemonic, alternative and popular knowledge).
