ABSTRACT

Objectives: To describe and analyze the impact that body modifications have resulted in the study group, as well as health and care strategies that have been used during the process and how are you these from a gender perspective. Material and method: A qualitative descriptive study, interviews in depth were conducted with eight men and six women. The questions were: What do you care about since your body is going to be intervened? What are the risks and consequences you have faced with such modifications and how have you relieved them? What are the hygiene, preventive, care and feed measures you hold throughout the process? Results: Both men and women carry out various strategies from the beginning to the end of the process. Differences were observed when taking into account the care men and women give their bodies. The consequences in women were caused by negligence of the modifiers, whereas men have suffered out of poor care of themselves. Conclusions: In the analysis we realize that both risks and consequences these processes have in health have been studied from the medical point of view, yet medical doctors do not have sufficient preparation, which has caused damage to some subjects. However in the study group, it was observed that self-care strategies were established, from both biomedical models and traditional medicine.
