ABSTRACT

Lyme disease is an infectious illness caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi. It is transmitted to humans by the bite of infected ticks (Ixodes scapularis) from their wild reservoirs, such as white-tailed deer or mice. The diagnosis of neuroborreliosis can be difficult. Different manifestations in central nervous system have been described, such as meningoradiculitis in adults, lymphocytic meningitis and facial paralysis in children, among others. Due to the low incidence reported in our country, we report two cases of patients with neuroborreliosis without cutaneous manifestations that presented meningitis and, optic neuritis in the first one, as well as facial paralysis in the second one.
