School climate and family atmosphere in mexican university students

ABSTRACT

The present study had the objective of determine the effect that the gender and the degree has on school climate, the degree and the grade point average has on family climate and describe the school climate and family climate in a sample of 512 students from a public university in Morelos (Mexico). The t of student was conducted for gender and school climate and the test of variance analysis for degree and school climate, as well as degree and grade point average for family climate. 61.8% of respondents perceived a negative school climate, 71.5% perceived that there is no involvement, 50.6% felt membership, 50% felt that receives help from the teacher and other 50% felt that didn´t receive teacher´s help. Students from the Health Sciences areas (Medicine and Psychology) presented a more positive school climate compared to those from Social Sciences (Administration and Law). 86.3% of respondents perceived a positive family environment, 93.9% perceived family environment without conflict, 85.7% perceived that there is cohesion and 81.4% perceived that there is expressiveness. The students with better academic performance perceived a better family atmosphere.
