ABSTRACT

Background. Saving extremities is the first objective of the vascular surgery, but there are cases where the amputation of the limbs gives the patient an opportunity to be reintegrated into society and enhance his quality life.
Objective. To present the case of a patient diagnosed with grade 4 lymphedema in right leg subjected to an above-knee amputation.
Case report. Male patient with a 34-year history of grade 4 lymphedema, presenting limited mobility arcs and difficulty to walk by volume and weight of extremity.
Conclusion. This patient with physical and mental rehabilitation can be reinstated into society, this is why he can be paradoxically benefited by the amputation.
