Perception of the educational environment by undergraduate students in Dentistry

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to evaluate students’ perceptions of the educational environment in the Faculty of Dentistry of the National University of San Marcos. Lima. Peru. Material and methods: 161 students were surveyed using the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure questionnaire. The questionnaire included the perception of the dimensions: Learning, Teachers, Academic, Atmosphere, and Social. Second, third, fourth and fifth-year students were included; Students whose curriculum includes theoretical, practical, pre-clinical and clinical courses. Results: The perception of the global educational environment obtained a score of 112, the perception of learning a score of 27, of teachers of 25, of academic training of 19, of the atmosphere a value of 26 and social perception a score of 15. Conclusion: The educational environment in the Faculty of Dentistry is perceived as more positive than negative, perceptions improve in students of higher years, there are factors that must be improved such as the development of soft skills both by students and teachers, prioritize long-term learning over short-term, reduce stress within academic activities, improve training in methods of study and concentration as well as improve social activities.
