ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the educational results of the second year students of the medical career, Latin American School of Medicine, who were subordinated to an interdisciplinary pedagogical intervention related to the retention of the biomedical contents.
Method: Longitudinal, prospective, with deliberate, sequential three-step study, in 2015-2016 academic year. The questionnaires applied in the previous course were reviewed by professors of Morphophysiology, suggestions, proposals of modifications and new questionnaires were made. We applied a retention examination of essential knowledge of Morphophysiology, necessary for the understanding of Pathological Anatomy. Identifying the difficulties, pedagogical intervention was carried out by teachers and Assistant Students of Pathological Anatomy, relating knowledge of the basic and pathological sciences, applying teaching of development, and problem-based learning.
Results: The promotion and quality of the applied general exam was demonstrated, as well as of each subject that constituted of Morphophysiology ; in addition the questions with better results and those of greater difficulty. The general retention examination had a promotion of 68.2% and quality of 38.6%; after the application of the pedagogical intervention, in the half yearly Pathological Anatomy test, a promotion of 91.1% and quality of 81.5% was obtained; In the final exam of the subject was obtained promotion of 97% and quality of 78.3%; In both cases the Wilcoxon test was applied, the significance was 0.000.
Conclusions: The initial diagnosis of retention of the biomedical contents allows structuring the developmental teaching in Pathological Anatomy and improves the results of the teaching-learning process in the subject.
