ABSTRACT

Indroduction. The success ofthe endodontic therapy depends on several factors, one of the most important is canal preparation. Which bringsus to a good mechanicol debridement and creoting optimum root conal geometry to allow proper sealing. Objective. The objective of this study is to campore in vitro the apical transversely dentin removal produced bythe instrumentotion ProTaper, K3 and manual in curved root conals. Materials and methods. Mesial roots of lower molars were used, which were placed in a resin cube. Two cuts were performed at 3 and 6 mm apical. Each section was measured the orea and shape ofthe canal ond reassembled to be divided intothree studygroups of-40 canals each. Group A: Rootcanals instrumentad with manual techniquewith K-files flexofile. Group B: instrumentad with the ProTapertechnique. Group C: instrumentad with the K3 technique. Once the root Canals were instrumentad, the orea and shape of the canals were measured. Results. Statistically significant differences were found in transversa sha pe left by the different study grou ps (p ‹.0001) where ProTaper instruments left as many circular canals in the apical orea while with K-Fiexofile prevailed oval canals. In the middle third, no statistico lly significant differences were fou nd between the preoperative (p= .21 ) and postoperative shapes (p= .35). In the orea (mm2) statistically significant differences were identified in the apical orea left between instrumentotion with ProTaper and K3 (p‹.OOOl ); Pro Taper and K Flexofile (p‹.OOOl) and K3 with K Flexofile (p‹ .0001 ) being ProTaper which removed the greoter amount of dentin. In the middle third, the largest orea of dentin removed was with the ProTapersystem. Conclusions. The ProTopersystem ochieves leoving circulorconols in transversa section cutsofthe opicol ond middlethirds. Theoreo ofthe cross transverse apical and middle thirds cuts of root canals i nstrumented with ProTaper is significantly higher than the orea left by K3 or K Flexofile.
