The process of decay in children and their relationhip with hypomineralization and enamel hypoplasia

ABSTRACT

Hypomineralization molar incisor (HIM) and enamel hypoplasia are anomalies that occurfrequently in children and can trigger prablems such as cavities, sensitivity, poor aesthetics fostering self-esteem problems, prematura loss of tooth bodies and even malnutrition. The oim of this study was to identify the aforementioned enamel defects and their association with the process of decay, in arder to make early detection of specificactions to emphasize protection and reduce the incidence of caries. Under o design, descriptiva, transversal, observationol, homodemic and association, a study was conducted in the orea of pediotricdentistry of FomilyMedicine Unit No. 1 "ISSSTEP" where it fluctuoted ogeswere between 6-15 yeors old in a periodfromMoy 1 to July 31,2015. The total number of patients who entered the study was 160 children with an average age of 8.5+/-1.7años. The data showed that only 23 patients (14.38%) had hypoplasia, while 24 patients {15%) hypomineralization molar incisor and 113 patients (70.38%) had no enamel defects. According to the most offected sex hypoplosio wos the femole with on oge of 1O yeors offected, while the hypomineralizotion predominonce of moles in the oge of 8 yeors affected, ofter that, the association of these twa diseoses with the presence of caries using SPSS version 22, with a significance level of p = ‹0.05, showing that only the presence of enamel hypomineralization is related to the presence of dental caries (p=.045) while enamel hypoplasia is not related to the presence ofcories (p = 0.076).
