ABSTRACTA descriptive and prospective investigation to characterize the cardiotoxicity in women with breast cancer treated with anthracyclines was carried out, it was included a non-randomly selected sample of 31 patients, assisted at Celestino Hernández Robau Hospital of Santa Clara, Villa Clara, between July 2014 and August 2016. Electrocardiogram and echocardiogram were obtained from all women in the study, before starting the treatment and 60 to 90 days after the therapy was over. The mean age was of 57 ± 11 years. Between the risk factors studied hypertension was the most frequent (41,9%), followed by obesity (29%); the mean of the ejection fraction and circumferential shortening of the left ventricle was significantly reduced but within normal limits. The evaluated parameters indicate that the doses of anthracyclines used were safe for the appearance early toxicity.
